Preparing for Boudoir
Hello and thanks for stopping by my blog. My first few blogs were a lot about getting to know me but going forward I’m also going to throw some information out there that could benefit my current and future clients. Keep reading for all of the details you might be potentially wanting to ask prior to your boudoir session!
First and foremost I have many women ask me what they should wear to their boudoir shoot. I do have some client closet outfits for use such as robes and kimonos but I do ask all clients to come with outfits that they know they absolutely love on their body. The reason for not having invested in a larger client closet and requesting that my clients bring their outfits to their shoot is that every body is so different and I want to be inclusive of everyone. Nothing would crush me more than having you show up to your boudoir shoot looking amazing and getting so excited for your photos but just simply not LOVING any of the client closet pieces that I have on your own body. This is why I have women come with their outfits the day of and then if they choose to also wear some pieces that I have, that is absolutely okay as well!
You might be thinking…what do I wear though?! Absolutely no worries. If you have any questions whatsoever, please contact me and I will help you with the best outfit choice for you. The most important thing is wearing something that you truly feel confident, comfortable and beautiful in. Often women believe that they HAVE to wear lingerie for a boudoir session and while lingerie is very commonly used in boudoir images, it is not the only option for your shoot. Some women feel more comfortable in an oversized t-shirt with some boy shorts or an oversized sweater with some long socks. What is your style? What feels right for you? My goal is to not only make you feel absolutely beautiful at your session but to also showcase who you are as a person through your images.
Are you wondering about props? Does your significant other have an oversized shirt that you’d really love to wear in your session? Do you want to incorporate a prop item that means a lot to you? Whatever the case may be, just reach out to me and we’ll figure out if the prop item can be incorporated in your shoot and come up with some ideas as to just how we can incorporate it!
Preparing the day before the session I always recommend clients try to get a good night of sleep. Now as a mother of three I know that that isn’t always a possibility, so don’t stress it and just do your best to get a decent amount of rest prior to your shoot. Drinking a decent amount of water will have you looking your absolute best; staying hydrated makes your skin glow. Back to hydration…your skin would love some moisture too! Lotion is amazing the morning of your session to make your skin look more lively and moisturized in your portraits. If you want to bring a playlist of music to play during your session, you go girl! Just make sure that it isn’t too loud so I am able to openly communicate with you about poses. If that was your next question…I got YOU! I will pose you from start to finish your entire session. If you have poses that you’ve seen online that you would absolutely love to try, just let me know when we begin and I will do my best to try to incorporate any and all of the ideas that you love! Sometimes showing me poses that you like also helps to personalize your photos a little bit because I am able to see the style in which you hope for your images to be and even if we have to change the poses up a bit to flatter your body, I am able to see the overall mood that you’d like for your images.
A question that I get almost daily that makes me a little sad is, “Do you photograph plus sized women?” YES, YES, 10000 times YES. I photograph absolutely everybody. There is not one thing that a person can identify as or look like that disqualifies them from a photoshoot with me. I am all inclusive and I find beauty in absolutely everyone. I photograph every single body shape and every single size. I have worked with all body types and I will pose you in a way that flatters your body shape. If you are very insecure about your body and there are certain things you don’t want to be the focal point in your photos, we will also discuss this in your boudoir booking questionnaire. The questionnaire allows me to get to know you a bit better and the things that you are trying to love more about your body as well as what you already do love! We are only human and everyone has insecurities. What I love about my job is helping women to love their insecurities and see beauty in themselves exactly as they are. I frequently have women say that they would like to lose (insert number) pounds before their photoshoot but the bottom line is you deserve to love your body in every single form that it comes. Self love is difficult and it is a journey, not a destination. Learning to love yourself at every point of life is part of that journey. I promise you I will pose you in ways that you will see exactly how beautiful you really are. YOU deserve it.
The final thing that every boudoir queen needs to do to prepare is to simply reach out to me with any concerns or questions. If you book a session with me and you have literally 25 questions, please reach out with all of them. I’ve had clients in the past say they are so sorry to annoy me. Annoy me?! I LOVE TO TALK TO MY CLIENTS. Always. I love to talk to people even if I don’t work with them. I love helping, empowering and uplifting other people. If you have 55 questions, you are not annoying me. I am here to help. If you are having a rough day and you really need someone to vent to…I am also here for that. I truly just care about all of you and want to help you with anything that I possibly can in life…whether that be to feel absolutely amazing through your boudoir images, whether that be needing someone to talk to on a difficult day or even if you aren’t ready for a boudoir shoot but you’d like to talk to me about your self love journey and get any helpful tips. I am here for you for all of the above! Please just reach out to me and I will be here. :)
